Get Carded! DIY Holiday cards…..
The exchange of greeting cards is one of the most popular and widely accepted customs in the United States. There are cards for virtually any occasion or relationship. Giving a greeting card creates a lasting impression and emotional bond between sender and receiver, and it is a known fact that most people will keep the special cards they receive “forever.” I have always loved cards and have treasure many of my favorites that I have received and kept over the years.
Like my wrapping, whenever possible, (and it’s always possible), I like to give a card that is personalized in some way…..but buying a handmade card can get pricey. I’ve noticed that the price of handmade cards from companies like Papyrus or Hallmark’s ‘Signature Collection‘ can cost as much as $10-$15 a piece. That’s fine if you want to send just one or two but it gets really costly if you have many cards that you need to send.
Sometimes I can spend an entire afternoon driving from one store to another and be searching through countless racks and displays to find just the right card for that special someone. Then I realize my time could be much better spent at home making my own hand-made cards out of old tags, paper scraps, and leftover embellishments from other craft projects. Scrap items can be transformed into beautiful handmade cards that are far more rewarding and gratifying for me to make and can become ‘treasured keepsakes’ for the people to whom they are given.
